El presidente Danilo Medina asistió este sábado al tradicional desfile militar, con ocasión de celebrarse el 172 aniversario de la Independencia Nacional.La banda de música de la Guardia Presidencial entonó las notas del Himno Nacional y al mismo tiempo, una brigada de infantería del Ejército de República Dominicana rindió los honores militares al Gobernante, con una salva de 21 cañonazos.
Posteriormente, el mayor general Heraldo de los Santos solicitó permiso al Presidente de la República para comenzar el desfile militar que se realizó por tierra, aire y mar en el malecón de la avenida George Washington.
De inmediato, por primera vez desfiló un batallón de generales retirados, comandado por el general Tomy Alarcón y un grupo de cadetes de las Fuerzas Armadas de México, seguido de militares de la Armada Dominicana y otras instituciones castrenses.
El numeroso público que presenció el desfile aplaudió las exhibiciones de las unidades de la Policía Nacional, también a las tropas y escuadrillas de aviones y helicópteros de la Fuerza Aérea de República Dominicana y las unidades marítimas.
Junto a Danilo Medina estuvieron los ministros de la Presidencia, Gustavo Montalvo; administrativo de la Presidencia, José Ramón Peralta; de Interior y Policía, José Ramón Fadul; de Defensa, teniente general Máximo William Muñoz Delgado; de Obras Públicas, Gonzalo Castillo; de Trabajo, Maritza Hernández y de Hacienda, Simón Lizardo Mézquita, así como sus asistentes especiales, Carlos Pared Pérez y Robert de la Cruz.
También, los comandantes generales de la Armada Dominicana, vicealmirante Edmundo Féliz Pimentel; Fuerza Aérea de la República Dominicana, mayor general piloto Elvis Marcelino Féliz Pérez y del Ejército de la República Dominicana, mayor general José Eugenio Matos de la Cruz.
Igualmente, el Jefe de la Policía Nacional, mayor general Nelson Peguero Paredes; el procurador general de la República, Francisco Domínguez Brito, entre otros funcionarios y miembros del cuerpo diplomático y consular acreditados en el país.
